Finally! Ashton's Getting a New Website!

Why We Need a Properly Built Website and How We're Getting There

This is the 6th in a series of blogs written by Ashton Technology Solutions sales & marketing manager Jim Abbott, as he makes the move from a web services firm to a managed IT solutions firm.

Slowly But Surely

Getting our website up to date has been a long process, but we’re definitely moving in the right direction. We use Directive as our web provider, and they’ve been extremely helpful in terms of getting those things done, that we haven’t been able to do on our own. Our site was built using Joomla which is an open source tool, and coming from a custom web shop, it’s taken me awhile to get on board with what I call a ‘templated solution’. First Meeting with a Prospective Client

So, it’s my fourth week on the job, and yesterday was my first visit to a prospective client’s office. As I’m a sales and marketing guy, you’re probably wondering what took me so long to get a meeting. Well, just cool your jets. Looking back on my calendar, I count 19 meetings in my first three weeks, all with people from my network. Some who may be prospective clients, and others who may be prospective partners. Partners? Yes, partners are very important. Ashton offers managed IT services (meaning we can handle a company’s IT needs, if they don’t want to or can’t manage their own IT) and a variety of IT solutions. This includes cloud services, disaster recovery, offsite backups, hardware, and networking, to name a few (see? I’m starting to learn what it is that we have to offer!) While we provide a lot, we don’t offer web services (web design, online marketing, etc.), software training, or credit card processing. Each of those items is something I can recommend to our clients, so having partners to whom I can refer our clients is huge.

Businesses Need to Market Themselves

Any business that’s looking to grow and prosper needs to properly market themselves. It might be through word of mouth, direct mail, social media, tv/radio/print advertising, online, or even the Yellow Pages, but it has to be done. Ashton Technology Solutions has been around since 1994 (originally as The Ashton Group, and since 2005 with our current name), and we’ve marketed ourselves through various channels; corporate newsletters, company websites, traditional marketing collateral, and the list goes on. Clearly, we’ve met with some level of success, or we wouldn’t have lasted for 20 years. That said, a lot of opportunity still exists.
