Conspiracy Theories, Cargo Ships, and Free Roommates

Well, regardless of the weather, it seems as though spring is finally here.  The Weber grill here at the office is cooling down after I cooked burgers and brats for all who are here.  First time cooking in the parking lot since we fried turkeys for Thanksgiving.  Additionally, I’m getting ready to head downtown to the Indians home opener (even if they’re a minor league team with a minor league name, masquerading as a big league team). Should be a good day down there, what with the Cavs game going on tonight, too. Any thoughts on how the baseball team will do this year?

Something About…

Denver Int’l Airport
Until this past February, I’d never spent any time in Colorado, other than on layovers at Denver International Airport (DIA).  Earlier this week, I got an email mentioning that eight of the 10 busiest airports in the world are in the U.S., with DIA being #3 on that list (Atlanta is #1 followed by DFW, Denver, O’Hare, and LAX).  As I read the article, I saw a link to another piece about the multitude of conspiracy theories that surround DIA.  THinking the article wasn’t detailed enough, I found another one.

Ever Forward
I’ve seen two articles in the span of 12 hours on the topic of the Ever Forward, the cargo ship that ran aground in the Chesapeake Bay.  If you want to know if it’s still stuck (it is), you can check its status here.

Fakecalls

Consumers in South Korea are being targeted with an app that looks exactly like one they’d use for mobile banking.  The only problem is, when they call customer support, they’re calling a hacker and providing all of their personal information.  What’ll they think of, next?

Cleveland Monsters TicketsI had a few takers last week, and we have two more games to give away.  First come, first served for four tickets and a parking pass.

Tuesday April 19th vs. Utica Comets

Wednesday April 20th vs. Utica Comets

Both games at 7PM. Respond by hitting the green “submit a thought” button below.

Real Estate
For $800K, you can get a house.  And a roommate who doesn’t pay rent.  Or for $950K, you can have a couple of shipping containers in Western Mass.
Instagram Scams
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.  Instagram users are seeing more and scams and fake accounts, focused on cryptocurrencies and get rich quick schemes.  Many of these are fake accounts using names and images of well known financial planners.
Persistence
When hackers gain access to your network and the ability to stay in the network for weeks and months, it’s referred to as ‘persistence’.  If you’re looking for a good technical description of a recently announced hack on a governmental agency, this is it.  In this case, the hackers spent six months on the network, and nobody paid them any attention!

For all those who are celebrating, I hope you have a happy Passover or Easter, and make sure you find all those hidden Easter eggs.  They’ll start to smell by Wednesday, if you don’t!

Have a great weekend,

Abbey

(Nobody here calls me Jim. Might as well sign the name I’m known as at Ashton)
